Getting to London Gatwick (LGW) Airport
London Gatwick Airport (LGW) is approximately 30 miles south of London. It has two terminals, North & South, which are connected by a monorail which runs 24/7 every few minutes.
Getting to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) by train
The easiest access is by rail straight to the South terminal. Trains from the following London mainline stations all have services to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) - Victoria, London Bridge and St. Pancras. The journey time from London Victoria mainline station is about 30 minutes on the ‘Gatwick Express’ or 40 minutes on the normal ‘fast’ train. If you have to get into London from Gatwick or vice versa it is far easier and quicker to use the train system than be driven (and often cheaper).
Getting to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) by road
London Gatwick Airport (LGW) is just off the M23 at Junction 9. The M23 is Junction 7 on the M25. There is no way off the M23 between the M25 and the London Gatwick Airport (LGW) turnoff. Many people have missed their flights due to accidents on the M23, often caused by people in a hurry to catch their flight! I would advise that, if you are travelling to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) by road then you should tune your car radio to receive the ‘traffic’ reports. Also have a look at your map and identify possible alternative routes to the airport in the event that a problem occurs. I often leave the M25 at Leatherhead, Reigate, Godstone or Sevenoaks depending on which way I am approaching the airport and the conditions prevailing when a ‘traffic’ report advises on possible problems ahead.
Please, please, please do not drive like a maniac to make up lost time! Coz, sure as God made little green apples, you could meet up with another idiot doing the same and the resulting ‘incident’ will not only make you miss your flight but also affect a great many others which may include me, with my clients! Thank you for being considerate.
Driving to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) from the south or across country is not normally a problem as there are many alternatives.
Getting to London Gatwick Airport (LGW) by National Express Coach or bus
If you are travelling by National Express coach - The driver will visit both terminals, all you need to do is get off at the correct one.
If you are travelling by local bus then the bus stops at North terminal BUT at South terminal it now stops, for security reasons, on the main road that passes under the terminal building. DO NOT attempt to cross this road! There is a safe, signed pathway leading from the bus stop to the terminal building. If in doubt follow the workers.
It follows, I hope, that if you are flying into London Gatwick Airport (LGW) you can reverse these suggestions to leave the airport.
By far the nicest way of getting to London Gatwick (LGW) Airport is to be driven, by Titan Private Hire.
