Arrivals Information South Terminal
The business of flying, at the South Terminal, is all dealt with on one level, the 1st floor (one up from ground level). The leisure part of the business - Shopping, eating and drinking is available on the 2nd floor.
International Arrivals - South Terminal
As you exit the customs hall (via the duty free shop) follow the crowd around to the right. This leads you straight into the main body of the arrivals hall which is at the north end of the building.
If you want the local bus service go straight on (scroll down for further information).
With shops to your right and W.H. Smith’s and the toilets behind you, you are facing the exits to everywhere.
If you are being met by a Titan Private Hire driver they will probably be waiting in this area or trying to attract your attention from the chrome plated guide rail on the right as you came out into land-side
The rail station & transit station is straight ahead.
The way to the short term car park, taxi rank, courtesy off airport car-park coaches, vehicle collection area for the ‘meet and greet’ parking services and Hilton hotel is to the right of the rail station exit. From here it is quite a long walk although the moving walkway often works.
Once you reach the end of the long walk -
- the taxi rank is out side.
- Entrance to the short stay car-park and Hilton hotel is down the ramp one level
- The Returns for ‘meet and greet’ parking services are down to ground level
- Courtesy coaches and National bus services tend to move now and then so look for the signs at the top of the ramp.
Domestic Arrivals - South Terminal
These arrive at the south end of the building in a corner of the departures area. To get to anywhere in the terminal from here it is easiest to walk straight on with check in desks to left and right until you reach the far wall. now turn to your left. As you walk along you will pass the exits to; the short term car park, the hotel, the route to the taxi rank and national bus services and finally the rail station and transit to the north terminal.
To your left after rows of check in desks you will see the stairs to the shopping area then the international arrivals area. For the most part there are clear signs directing you to the various areas.
If you are being met, your driver/friend etc., should be waiting as you pass from air-side to land-side, however it is a very small area and it does get very busy with people milling around the check in desks.
If you are being met by a Titan Private Hire Driver they will be as close as possible to the exit from air-side.
Local bus services
To be fair if you are looking for a local bus you are probably a local but if not....
Getting to the local bus routes from South terminal is challenging and not as well signed as one would expect. Due to security measures the local bus routes no longer pass under the terminal building between the inner and outer security fences. They are now confined to the A23 main road which, although it still passes under the terminal building, is outside the outer security fence. As this is a dual carriageway with a barrier between the two carriageways there are two options for reaching both north and southbound bus stops.
Northbound & southbound busses from the International Arrivals area.
As you exit the air-side into the arrivals hall carry straight on towards the left luggage office. Turn right at the wall and you will see a pair of double doors ahead. Go through the doors and down the endless flight of steps to the ground floor, where they end. Through the doors at the bottom and out into the open air. Follow the path to the bus stop which will be on your right.
To get to the southbound bus stop ignore the bus-stop and continue to follow the path. After a few yards you will reach a pedestrian/vehicle tunnel. Take the tunnel under the dual carriageway and turn right when you exit. The bus stops are ahead of you.
Southbound and northbound busses from the domestic arrivals area.
Follow the signs to the Transit station, when you reach it, pass right down the middle to the far end where you will see some stairs. Down the stairs to the ground floor and out into the open air. The bus stop southbound is along the path to your left. The tunnel to the northbound bus stop is down the path from the southbound bus stop to your right.
Obviously you can mix and match these two options depending on the weather etc.. My preference is to use the International exit if I want to go north and the directions given for domestic flights if going south, especially if it is wet and horrid.
